If we order x-rays, you may wonder if you really need them. After all, you can see a lot about what's going on in a mouth with a visual exam. However, that is really not enough information. X-rays can show so much more than that. The following information provides reasons why x-rays are necessary during a dental exam.
What Are X-rays?
X-rays are images that are produced today digitally to find out more about the general health of the teeth and gums. If you are concerned about radiation, an x-ray does not transmit any more radioactivity than what you would receive if you rode an hour on a plane. Therefore, getting x-rays to assess your overall dental health is safe and effective. If you still feel a little nervous about the radiation, we can provide you with lead coverings or reduce the radiation setting. We want you to feel comfortable during your dental exam.
What Can X-rays Reveal?
When x-rays are taken, we can find out if there are any cavities between the teeth – something that cannot be seen on visual inspection. We can also check for any problems with misalignment – again, something that cannot be readily seen. We also use x-rays to check for problems with the tissues or bones. The images can give us a great deal of information that we would have to otherwise omit. Therefore, it is in your best interest to have x-rays taken at least yearly. Doing so can save you a good deal on your overall dental expenses.
If you have not had x-rays taken lately, you need to schedule them now. Give us a call today to book an appointment for a cleaning, exam, and x-rays. Make sure that all your dental needs are met for you and your family. All members of your family should receive x-rays to support their dental goals and health.
